Get your kids off the couch this March Break and get them out to enjoy the many wonderful activities offered at Wye Marsh.

Families looking to keep their children entertained throughout the March Break have some great options to choose from at Wye Marsh.

With a week’s worth of fun, outdoor activities, the marsh will be offering march break camps as well as fun, family activities during the week of March 10 to 14.

“Each day has a different theme,” says Denise Brophey, marketing and communications co-ordinator at Wye Marsh.

The kids camp will include Sweet Tasting Sweetwater, which she says will tie in with the Sugar Shack, as well as the first tree tapping ceremony of the season.

Kids will also have the opportunity to learn about the marsh and the many animals there through the Marsh Mania, “Toadally” Terrific Toads and Radical Reptiles programs . Each day will also include either cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, she adds.

“Kids can come for one day, two days or all five days …  it’s up to them. We do have a daily rate.”

Also available are family programs that offer four activities each day, such as Sugar Shack demonstrations, guided snowshoe tours and GPS training. All family programs are included in the general admission and are free to members, says Brophey, noting families will also have the chance to take a guided dog sled tour for an additional cost.

“These programs are a great way to get active and do something active both indoor and out, as well as to learn about what the marsh has to offer,” she says.

“A lot of people don’t know we have 22 kilometres of cross-country trails, or that you can feed chickadees out of your hand.”

Programs are filling up fast, so Brophey recommends registering as soon as possible in order to save a spot.

“The response in the past has been really good … last year, we sold out all five days and we’ve had to turn people down before.”
