Come and get lost in the words of acclaimed author Farzana Doctor at the Midland Public Library.
On Wednesday, Jan. 9, author and psychotherapist Farzana Doctor will be on hand for a special reading of her book Stealing Nasreen, a novel about queer identities, immigrant life and lost loves. The book, which is set in Toronto, focuses on an Indo-Canadian lesbian and burnt-out psychologist who becomes enmeshed in the lives of a new immigrant family from Mumbai.
Doctor will be in Midland as part of the library’s Reading Program, which brings in various authors to share their works.
According to Midland Public Library CEO Bill Molesworth, part of the library’s job is to promote a wide a variety of reading material.
“Our feeling is that reading takes you to places and into societies that the average reader will never experience in life. The next best thing is to have a representative of that society take the reader there – to illustrate, to illuminate and perhaps to educate, as well as to entertain,” he says
