I was pleased to learn that the County of Simcoe has reversed their earlier decision to exclude the Site 41 Community Monitoring Committee (CMC) from the upcoming waste management workshop.

The CMC, who's mandate includes the review and exchange information with the County, welcomes the opportunity to participate.

The CMC recognizes our function, and limits, as an advisory body to the County in connection with Site 41. As Chair of the CMC, my responsibility is to ensure that all information regarding Site 41, relevant to both County and local concerns, is presented to the members of County Council for their consideration prior to any decision.

As a taxpayer in the County of Simcoe concerned with broader waste management issues, I hope that members of County Council will recognize this workshop as a first step in developing a strategic direction. I would suggest the next step is to conduct a business case study of the issue in order to develop a fact driven point of view, one that will stand up to scrutiny. Decisions made without a proper examination of all of the relevant implications can have disastrous results both environmentally and economically.

Ray Millar, Site 41 CMC Chair
