Morals seem to be missing

We ask ourselves what is happening to our youth, and why are they out of control?

I choose to deal with what we are teaching them, and more importantly, what we are not.

In search of some possible answers, I turned to my Grade 2 Reader in search of clues on how I had been taught in my formative years.

I was pleasantly surprised to read and remember how moral our literature was in those days.

Not constrained by political correctness, I found articles by wonderful writers such as Tennyson, Robert L. Stevenson, Carman Bliss, Clement Moore, and Longfellow ... in Grade 2!

Further, there were at least three stories right out of the Bible such as The Good Samaritan, Joseph and his Coat of Many Colours, and The Prodigal Son.

There were those little fill-ins at the bottom of some pages, such as, "Take not the name of God in vain, nor utter any word profane."

Whoops ... there goes most of our television programs!

Where are the people with the backbone who will stand against the politically correct and perhaps tell them that you don't mind if the 10 Commandments hang on the walls of public buildings, schools, courthouses, etc., since it might teach our kids that foul language, lies, stealing and killing are not acceptable behaviour in any circumstances.
