The coat drive exceeded its goal, with 2,804 coats pouring in from caring individuals, schools, churches and businesses. Support for the program came from many businesses.
The Mountainview Mall was especially generous in providing an ideal space for the coat distribution depot. The Village Square Mall and the three Tay Township public libraries contributed by serving as collection sites.
Much of the success of the program must be attributed to the local media, which assured the program’s success through excellent promotion to both potential donors and recipients.
The program provided 1,859 coats to needy individuals. This statistic is not a surprise. As we know from our experiences at the food bank, North Simcoe has many people who need assistance meeting the basic needs of everyday life.
For these people, the cold Midland winter will be more bearable because of the generosity of all those who stepped up to make the coat drive possible.
Although the program is officially over, we have a limited selection of coats available at the food bank, and we encourage anyone in need of a coat to contact us.
