I sort of thought to myself, “Gee, it would be nice if average Canadians could have that special feeling of being part of the Olympic torch run.”
I was thinking that even before I read Mike Dodd’s column about journalists jumping the queue to carry the torch. I know he was talking about the commercialism of it all, but how about the little guy?
I read that Sidney Crosby would be carrying the torch in his home province. While I agree Mr. Crosby is a great hockey player, Canadian and person, it would still be nice if an average Joe got the chance. Average people cheer just as much for Canada as anyone else.
Why not make someone that is not a professional have that special feeling of representing his or her community, province and country. It could be a postman, a factory worker, a bartender or anyone at all.
I don’t believe professionals should be any different than the rest of us, as we all put our pants on one leg at a time. We all deserve at least a chance to be involved.
