Canada Day celebrations are scheduled across the region, with activities being help in Midland, Penetanguishene and Tay Township.
Midland’s festivities will kick off early, with a minor lacrosse tournament beginning at 8 a.m. at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, and a beach volleyball tournament beginning at 9 a.m.
The annual parade will start at 10:30 a.m. and will make its way through Little Lake Park.
“I encourage all of the town of Midland to come out and enjoy their country, as well as their town. We have a lot to offer on Canada Day at our park, and I look forward to seeing everyone,” said Mayor Jim Downer. “I will be there … meandering through the park talking to the residents. I’m looking forward to seeing the residents all together and (being) one happy town.”
Festivities will continue throughout the day, with activities for children including an air bounce, laser tag, carnival games, face painting, Mark the Magician and the Rotary Entertainment Showcase from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The School Bus Surf Shop will host its seventh annual skateboard competition at the skateboard park, with registration beginning at 9 a.m.

“We’re going to have some good times all day,” said museum curator Nicole Jackson. “We’re going to have some music, free activities for the kids … and they can come inside the museum if they want to if it’s too hot.”
The festivities will end with a fireworks display at dusk at Rotary Park in Penetanguishene.
In Waubaushene, celebrations beginning at 3 p.m. at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 316 will include live music, a barbecue and lots of prizes. Admission is free and guests are asked to bring their own chairs.
