Re: “OPP, county stifling dissent, critics charge,” The Mirror, June 23.
It’s too bad people need to make remarks like “racist” or “discriminatory.”
I have not heard any racist or discriminatory remarks from either the OPP aboriginal relations team or from Simcoe County officials. Nor have I seen them acting in a racist or discriminatory way.
I am an aboriginal woman from Wasauksing First Nation, and have lived in the Midland area for about 11 years. While sitting on the side of Concession 2 peacefully protesting, I have been communicating with the aboriginal relations team and felt that they were there to make sure all people – in the encampment and on the construction site – were safe.
When I called the County of Simcoe to talk about Site 41, they treated me kindly on the phone. I never once felt that anyone was being racist or discriminatory.
