The Paquette family, foreground, is backed by about 50 of the volunteers who participated in the successful building of their new Habitat for Humanity home in Victoria Harbour. The family was officially welcome on June 20 with a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After waiting nearly seven months, one local family will finally be handed the keys to their new house this weekend.
Yvon Paquette and his family – wife Brenda and children Daniel, Chantal, Jada, Chloe, Colin and Jessica – will be moving into their new home, built by volunteers and funded by Habitat for Humanity North Simcoe, on Saturday.
Paquette said they are all raring to get into their new digs. This will be the first time he and his wife have owned their own home.
The family joined in the construction of the home, located in Victoria Harbour, and Paquette said seeing the house built from the ground up has been overwhelming.
“I don’t even know how to describe it…. It’s so amazing. I keep thinking it’s happening, but it doesn’t feel like it is,” he said. “It’s like buying a lottery ticket. You’re always hoping to win it, and this is what it feels like to us. Our lottery came in to finally get a home like this.”
Construction of the four-bedroom house began late last year. This is the fourth house built in the area by the charitable organization.
“The house is beautiful. For us, it’s going to be like a mansion – it’s unbelievable,” said Paquette. “We’re looking forward to getting it all put in there and getting everything in place … (and) finally being home,” he said. “It feels like it’s going to be a whole different attitude. It will be nice to put your own money into your own place.”
The official dedication for the home took place June 20.
