Re: "Defending the right to protest," Editorial, June 11.Sometimes, civil disobedience and the right to protest is the only option available to concerned citizens. These farmers and aboriginals who are protesting are standing up for all of us. They, like our forefathers, realize the need to rise above bad politics. As proud Canadian citizens, we must protect our right to have clean, sustainable water and uncontaminated crops for the good of all.We know a dump has to go somewhere, but why put one on a natural aquifer that contains some of this Earth's purist water? It is not only farmers and aboriginals who are outraged. People from all over Ontario are exercising their rights by marching in the Walks for Water that have been and will continue to be held until this bad science is corrected. Why? They want to leave future generations a legacy of life without corruption and protect our precious resources. If civil disobedience obtains this goal, so be it.Barbara AndrewsVictoria Harbour
