He told me that my generation is lazy, lacks a work ethic and is abusing and destroying our bodies with tattoos and piercings.

I have to mention a few things he may not have considered. Firstly, if we are a generation that lacks work ethic, it may have something to do with the parenting skills of his generation. If we are lazy, maybe he should reconsider the technical advancements created by his generation that have made us this way.

Secondly, adding artful work such as piercings and tattoos is not abuse to a body. Taking drugs, drinking copious amounts of alcohol and smoking destroy and abuse a body. Not that people in my generation aren't doing this, however, it is ridiculous to believe that none of his generation involves themselves in these activities.

Finally, I don't harass your generation about wearing shorts with tube socks pulled all the way up, so leave mine alone.
