The van that followed Terry Fox all 5,373 kilometres on his journey across Canada will be in Midland on Monday.
The 1980 Ford Econoline van went missing for several years. However, the van was located, restored and then presented to Terry’s brother Darrell to start a new journey on behalf of cancer research.
The van, which was Fox’s home for 143 days, will make a stop at Bourgeois Motors as part of a cross-Canada tour, produced and organized with the support of the employees of ScotiaMcLeod, that started in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Wayne Pearce, a sales consultant for Bourgeois Motors, tells The Mirror staff is excited this piece of Canadian history will be coming to their dealership.
“We were pretty thrilled. It’s a pretty big event,” he says. “(Terry Fox) was someone in our recent history doing a lot to fight his disease at such a young age.”
Pearce is hoping people will stop by to see the van, while reflecting on the event. “People will get to see what Terry Fox experienced while he was running across Canada and what he had for support … all he had was this van for living, eating and sleeping in.”
The van will be at Bourgeois Motors, located at 472 Hugel Ave. E., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
