Police surround the area where a fence had been knocked down over the weekend near Balm Beach. A Unionville man has been charged in connection with the incident.

Police have made an arrest in connection with the now infamous June 29 incident at Balm Beach.

A long-running dispute surrounding the construction of a two-metre-high cedar fence that divides the public beach from private property took a nasty turn that day when a man took a chainsaw to a section of the fence.

A crowd of people cheered when the section of fence was removed, witnesses said.

The investigation took police to a cottage on Cedar Lane in Tiny Township where they seized a chainsaw, and arrested a 39-year-old Unionville man.

He was charged with mischief and uttering threats and will appear in Midland court on Aug. 21.
