For the second consecutive summer, Sunset Point will be the demonstration site for the parking trial.

Counc. Norman Sandberg is hoping that the back-in angle parking trial is a success.

For the second consecutive summer, Sunset Point will be the demonstration site for the parking trial.

Sandberg, who pitched the idea to council last year, is hopeful council and the municipality will continue to educate the public on this style of parking as he feels it is much safer.

He said when a person opens the car doors, the doors create a barrier to the street and if the driver has children, the kids are forced to the curb, rather than to the street. He said it is also much easier for people to unload groceries and makes for better visibility to see cyclists and pedestrians in front of you.

"One of my personal hopes is that the public will embrace this demonstration site and then we can consider it for implementation in the downtown commercial area," he said.

Michelle Rich of the Environment Network is in favour of the project, as it will give the opportunity for the town to create more bike lanes.

"We're strongly supportive of alternative transportation and getting people out of their vehicles," she said.
