The Children’s Aid Society of Simcoe County held a celebration this week.
After more than 15 years at its King Street location, the CAS Midland branch officially opened the doors to its new office on Yonge Street.
Approximately to 75 people came out for the festivities, which included a chance to tour the new facility.
Mary Ballantyne, executive director, tells The Mirror while they moved in about six weeks ago, they have been in the process of building and renovating for the past year.
“The space we had before was much too small. The staff has tripled since we first moved into it,” she says. At 6,000 square feet, double the size of the old office, she says staff hope this new larger office will give the close to 1,000 families they help more space to have their visits, and a nicer opportunity to get together.
“It will also allow staff to have better facilities to work with these families.”
Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop was one of the many well-wishers who attended the open house, and says the office is a much-needed improvement.
“It’s nice that they continue to offer improved services for the residents of Midland,” he tells the Mirror. “We’re fortunate to have this new facility in Midland to provide better services to the whole Huronia area. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t need CAS.”
The new Midland branch is located at 741 Yonge Street, Unit 7.
