Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test results for individual boards and schools were released Wednesday.
The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the results as a followup to the provincewide results that were released in May.
Results for both local boards, the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) were just below the provincial rate of 84 per cent.
The SCDSB had 4,283 students write the test for the first time in March. Results show 81 per cent were successful, up from the 2007 result of 80 per cent.
In a statement, board chair Mary Anne Wilson said a majority of students are continuing to achieve strong results.
“I know our exceptional staff have worked very hard to support our literacy initiatives,” she said.
“As a board, we will continue to support programs that focus on improving student achievement to ensure success is a reality for all students.”
The SMCDSB had 1,930 students write the test. Eighty-two per cent of students were successful, down from the 83 per cent in 2007.
As for individual school results, Barrie North Collegiate, Stayner Collegiate Institute and St. Joseph’s High School in Barrie were the most successful with an 88 per cent success rate.
The OSSLT was written in March by 145,603 English-language Grade 10 students across the province.
The provincewide results showed that 84 per cent of students who wrote the test for the first time were successful.
