A second marijuana grow op has been discovered in as many weeks in Southern Georgian Bay.
Midland Police, along with members of the Central North Drug Unit, executed a search warrant on a home in the city’s east end of Midland earlier this week.
At around 6:30 p.m., officers served the search warrant for the grow op, and discovered 80 live marijuana plants and a number of individual packages containing dried pot and hash – with a street value of more than $50,000
Det.-Const. Brian Anderson tells The Mirror the drugs seized were part of a homegrown hydroponics operation at a Harvey Street home. While this isn’t one of the biggest busts police have made, it is expected to make a significant dent in what’s available on the street.
“They had a good home-grown operation going on,” he says. “Every arrest is an important one. It just goes to show there are hydroponics grow operations out there, and if anyone is aware of them, they should call police or Crime Stoppers.”
A 35-year-old Midland man was charged with a variety of drug-related offences, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, production of marijuana, and possession of cannabis resin over one gram. He is scheduled to appear in Midland court on July 31.
