Visitors to the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum will be able to get up close to their favourite stars this month – the astronomical kind that is.
From now until June 20, the museum will play home to an inflatable planetarium courtesy of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM).
Curator Nicole Jackson first saw the travelling display while visiting a museum in a different town, and knew right then and there it was something she wanted to bring to her museum.
“We are always wanting to try something different here. We want repeat visitors, plus, with this, we hope to make more schools from around the region aware of the educational programs we do here.”
“We thought it was really interesting, and something you wouldn’t be able to see unless you went down to the ROM,” adds Stacy Farrell, historical interpreter and day camp leader.
The dome fits close to 30 people, and includes a variety of filters relating to native history, ancient civilization and astronomy.
While the planetarium is meant mainly for educational programming – with schools from around Simcoe County invited to attend — visitors to the museum can also take part in the interactive display.
