The Sandy Cove Cloggers were one of more than 50 acts to audition for Summerfest’s Innisfil’s Got Talent.

It was searching for the next Canadian Idol – Innisfil style.

More than 50 acts danced, sang, strummed and clogged their way through the first stage of auditions for the “Innisfil’s Got Talent” event at Innisfil Community Church Monday and Tuesday night.

Co-organizer Lenore Dempster said acts featured Irish, Scottish Highland and ballroom dancers, guitar players, solo singers, singer/guitar combos, rock bands, young dancers and even an energetic group of cloggers from Sandy Cove Acres.

“We had entrants as young as five years old up to a man well into his eighties,” Dempster says.

A panel of five judges are now choosing which acts will be asked to attend the second round of auditions that will culminate in the top acts from each of six age categories performing at Innisfil’s Summerfest event.

Dempster says the judges, all members of the sponsoring Alcona Business Association, “were amazed at what they saw” during the two nights of auditions. “They were really impressed by the talent.”

A second set of judges, including Mayor Brian Jackson, will be present at the semifinals being held on Saturday, May 24 at Innisfil Community Church beginning at 2:00 p.m. The public is welcome to attend for a $2 admission.

For more information, call Dempster at 436-1095.
